As of this week, the changes occurring in the baby are as follows: In the 7th week of pregnancy, the baby’s head structure is larger relative to its body structure. The baby is now about the size of a bean. Facial features begin to become distinct. The structures of the eyes and ears also start to form. The mouth structure and tongue have begun to become prominent. In the 7th week, the arm and leg structures gradually begin to form. The skin starts to develop as a very thin membrane. The brain continues its formation with three main parts. The thyroid gland continues to develop, and the lymphatic system begins to form as of the 7th week. The chambers of the heart begin to fill with plasma and blood cells. Blood circulation has now started. At this stage, the heart consists of two parts and beats 150 times per minute. With the help of Doppler ultrasound, the baby’s heartbeat can now be heard during a doctor’s examination. Meanwhile, the lungs continue to develop. The pancreas, gallbladder, and stomach have formed and continue to develop. Blood reaches the liver from the placenta. At this stage, the arms become quite distinct; however, the leg structure is not yet fully defined. The baby is now completely settled in the amniotic sac. The umbilical cord also begins to form gradually.
What are the changes in the expectant mother at 7 weeks of pregnancy?
With pregnancy reaching the 7th week, the nipples become more prominent and sensitive. Tiny bumps begin to form around the nipples. The expectant mother’s blood pressure runs low due to the effect of hormones; therefore, dizziness may occur. No changes that would clearly indicate pregnancy have formed in the mother yet. In the 7th week, only 1–2 kilograms may be gained or lost. During this period, the mother may experience nausea and vomiting. These problems are seen more frequently upon waking up in the morning.
However, pregnancy periods vary from person to person. The same symptoms do not occur in every pregnant woman. Weight gain rates and baby development rates may show differences.
