Infertility and IVF Treatment Outlines

The most important and first step of Infertility and IVF Treatment is the stage where the couple meets with their physician, tests are evaluated, and the underlying issue is identified. Accordingly, the mutually decided treatment may involve ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), or direct IVF treatment. In general terms, infertility treatment is a process lasting 12-15 days in total, consisting of follicle monitoring, the trigger shot, and subsequent recommendations for intercourse or the performance of artificial insemination. During this process, there are a total of 3-4 consultations with the physician.

IVF treatment, when the short protocol is selected, begins on the second day of the menstrual cycle. It is a process that involves stimulating the ovaries with injections, the trigger shot, the egg retrieval procedure under anesthesia, fertilization of the eggs with sperm using the microinjection (ICSI) method, monitoring the resulting embryos in the laboratory for 3-5 days, and transferring the best 1-2 selected embryos into the uterus. This process takes a total of 15-20 days, during which egg development is monitored via ultrasonography through 5-6 consultations with the physician. This frequency of visits may be higher for some patients, such as those with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). When the long protocol is selected, the treatment process begins on the 21st day of the menstrual cycle and lasts for a total of 1 month. First, the ovaries are suppressed to synchronize the follicles until menstruation, after which the stimulation phase begins. Following menstruation, the same stages as the short protocol are carried out.
