The presence of a septum (a curtain-like tissue) in the uterus is a congenital uterine anomaly, diagnosed through ultrasonography or a medicated uterine X-ray (HSG). It usually does not directly prevent pregnancy but often leads to recurrent miscarriages. Therefore, if a uterine septum is suspected before a costly and demanding treatment like IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), it is correct to clarify the diagnosis with hysteroscopy and proceed to IVF treatment only after the septum has been removed.
