Early menopause can be simply defined as the cessation of menstruation before the age of 40. The exact cause of early menopause has not been clearly established, but women who have a family history of early menopause carry a risk. Therefore, it is appropriate to evaluate the ovarian reserve via ultrasonography in these women specifically, as well as in all women undergoing gynecological examinations. For women whose reserve is found to be borderline or low, performing tests such as AMH, which helps to reveal the ovarian reserve in the blood, is the correct approach. Women with limited ovarian reserve and low blood AMH levels carry a risk of early menopause.
