In diagnosing male infertility, a detailed evaluation of semen analysis is important. In a spermiogram, sperm count, motility, and structure (morphology) are evaluated. If the count is 15 million and above, the rate of progressive motile sperm is 30% and above, and the morphology is 4% and above, the sperm analysis can be considered normal.

A defect in any of these parameters alone may not cause infertility; only in cases of severe motility disorders is it necessary to proceed directly to IVF treatment. Morphology defect alone may not cause infertility.

Smoking is one of the leading factors that negatively contribute to sperm quality, namely movement and structure. Quitting smoking and a balanced diet will increase sperm quality.
