Induced labor is the method used to initiate uterine contractions when labor pains do not start spontaneously. In fact, the intensity is not different from natural labor pains; however, the perception of pain can be higher because the expectant mother’s pains did not start naturally, leading to a different assessment and expectation of the situation. It is possible to compensate for this situation with epidural anesthesia. Induced labor is recommended when the expectant mother has medical problems such as heart disease, or in cases where delivery must be facilitated, such as preeclampsia or fetal growth restriction. In such situations, acting according to the physician’s evaluation and recommendations will be best for the health of both the expectant mother and the baby.
