Hysteroscopy is an endoscopic method used to evaluate the uterine cavity. It does not typically require anesthesia; however, in some cases, performing hysteroscopy under anesthesia may be necessary for patient comfort. When space-occupying pathologies such as polyps or myomas are detected in the uterus, or when uterine anomalies such as a septum (partition) are identified on a medicated uterine X-ray (HSG), it is possible to treat these pathologies via hysteroscopy. This procedure generally takes 15–30 minutes, and hospitalization is not required afterward.
It is not mandatory to perform a hysteroscopy before every infertility treatment. However, if there is a suspicious finding on ultrasonography or an HSG, or in cases of recurrent IVF failures, it is appropriate to perform a hysteroscopy to visually evaluate the uterus.
